Fully licensed scrap dealer. Certificate of Destruction for cars and light vans.

Our truck collecting old fleet vans from a business yard in Birmingham

Fleet vehicle disposal at the end of their life

We buy business and fleet vehicles for scrap: we collect company cars and vans for free from wherever they are and pay by bank transfer on the day we collect. We are a fully licensed scrap metal dealer, so a business that wants to sell fleet vehicles for scrap deals with a licensed buyer. Each car or light van that is scrapped gets a Certificate of Destruction from the treatment facility within 7 days. Company cars and vans that have failed their MOT or will not start are collected the same way.

Every scrap metal dealer needs a licence from the local council, and each vehicle that is scrapped has to go to an authorised treatment facility, which is the only place a vehicle can lawfully be scrapped.

How company vehicles are collected

  1. Send us each registration

Send us the registration and postcode of each vehicle, and we come back to you with a price for each one.

  2. We collect from wherever the vehicles are

We agree a time between 6am and 10pm, every day of the week, and collect each vehicle from wherever it is.

  3. You are paid by bank transfer

We check photo ID and pay by bank transfer on the day, and you get a Certificate of Destruction for each car or light van within 7 days.

What a business needs to have ready

Have photo ID ready for the person handing the vehicles over, with a utility bill or bank statement from the last three months if the ID does not show an address, because the law makes every scrap dealer check who they are buying from. Have the V5C for each vehicle if you have it, and keep its yellow slip. The registered keeper then tells DVLA that each vehicle has been scrapped, or can be fined £1,000. Where a vehicle's V5C is missing, the keeper writes to DVLA instead, because the online service cannot be used without a logbook.

Finance, road tax and the certificates

A company vehicle on hire purchase or conditional sale cannot be sold or scrapped without the lender's permission. Once DVLA knows a vehicle has been scrapped, full months of tax left are refunded automatically and a Direct Debit for its tax is cancelled automatically, and the refund cheque goes to the name and address on the vehicle log book. Keep each Certificate of Destruction with your records, because without it you could still be liable for traffic offence penalties and vehicle tax.

What each vehicle fetches for scrap

A hatchback fetches about £235 for scrap on average, an estate about £275 and an SUV about £300: each vehicle is priced on its own weight, catalytic converter and reusable parts, so the heavier body types fetch more. Those body types weigh about 1,150 kg, 1,450 kg and 1,650 kg, and a van fetches about £240 on average. These figures are a guide to the gap between body types, not a promise.

Questions about business and fleet vehicles

Do you keep a record of each sale?

Yes. The law makes every scrap metal dealer record each purchase, including a description of the metal, the date and time, the seller's full name and address, a copy of the ID they showed and a copy of the cheque or transfer receipt, kept for 3 years.

How is a business paid?

We pay by bank transfer on the day we collect. Since 2013 the law has allowed a scrap dealer to pay for scrap metal only by cheque or electronic transfer.

Does every fleet vehicle get a Certificate of Destruction?

No. The treatment facility issues one within 7 days for a car, a light van or a 3-wheeled motor vehicle, and other types of vehicle do not get a certificate.

Can we take parts off a vehicle before it is scrapped?

Yes, to repair another vehicle you own. Tell DVLA the vehicle is off the road while you take parts from it and keep it off the road, and remember that a treatment facility can charge a fee if essential parts such as the engine, gearbox, bodywork or wheels have been removed.
