Fully licensed scrap dealer. Certificate of Destruction issued.

You can scrap a car without a V5
A missing V5C logbook does not stop a car being scrapped. You can still scrap a car with a lost logbook, and we collect it for free from wherever it is, non-runner cars included, and pay you by bank transfer on the day we collect.
The law makes every scrap dealer check the name and address of the person they buy from against official documents, and it is an offence for a seller to give a false name or address. That is why we check your photo ID. We are a fully licensed scrap metal dealer.
How to scrap a car without a V5
Tell us the logbook is missing
Send us the registration and postcode, and we come back to you with a price and tell you what paperwork to have ready.
We check your ID and collect
We agree a time between 6am and 10pm, every day of the week, check your photo ID and collect the car from wherever it is.
You are paid, then you write to DVLA
We pay you by bank transfer on the day, and you write to DVLA to tell them the car has gone for scrap. The treatment facility gives you a Certificate of Destruction within 7 days.
What to have ready without a logbook
Have photo ID ready, such as a passport or a photocard driving licence, and a utility bill or bank statement from the last three months if the ID does not show your address. Have whatever paperwork links you to the car ready as well, and we will tell you what else is needed. Note the car's registration, make and model and the date we collect it, because DVLA asks for them when you write.
The certificate and your tax refund
Keep the Certificate of Destruction with your records. It is your proof that you have handed the car over for scrap, and without it you could still be liable for traffic offence penalties and vehicle tax. Once DVLA knows the car has been scrapped, full months of tax left are refunded automatically, and a Direct Debit for the tax is cancelled automatically. The refund cheque goes to the name and address on the vehicle log book, and the refund is calculated from the date DVLA gets the information, so write promptly.
What a car without a V5 fetches
Most scrap cars fetch between about £150 and £300: fewer than three in a hundred fetch under £125, and only around seven in a hundred more than £300. We give you a price for your car from its registration, logbook or not, and a missing logbook does not change the car's weight or the metal rate, the two public numbers in a scrap price.
Questions about scrapping without a V5
Can you scrap a car without a V5 and still get a Certificate of Destruction?
Yes. A V5C is not needed to issue a Certificate of Destruction, and the facility gives you the certificate within 7 days.
Should I order a replacement V5C before scrapping?
No, not to scrap the car, because the Certificate of Destruction does not need one. If you want a replacement for another reason, you must be the registered keeper to apply online or by phone, and it then usually costs £25 and arrives within 5 to 7 working days.
Can you scrap a car without a V5 or the keys?
Yes. The Certificate of Destruction does not need a V5C, and we still collect a car with no keys, so tell us about both when you book, and we will tell you what else is needed.
How do I tell DVLA I have scrapped a car without a V5C?
Write to DVLA, because the online service cannot be used without a logbook. The letter gives your name and address, the registration number, the make and model, the exact date of sale and the name and address of the motor trader who took the car, and you can be fined £1,000 if you do not tell DVLA.
