Fully licensed scrap dealer. Certificate of Destruction for cars and light vans.

Scrap my van with a licensed dealer
Our service works the same way for a van as it does for a car: we collect the van for free from wherever it is and pay you by bank transfer on the day we collect. We are a fully licensed scrap metal dealer, and we take vans as well as cars, running or not.
Every scrap metal dealer needs a licence from the local council under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. A van that is scrapped has to go to an authorised treatment facility, and it is illegal to scrap it anywhere else.
Which vans get a Certificate of Destruction
A light van gets a Certificate of Destruction within 7 days, just as a car does, and it is your proof that you have handed the vehicle over. Keep it with your records, because without it you could still be liable for traffic offence penalties and vehicle tax. Vehicles other than cars, light vans and 3-wheeled motor vehicles do not get a certificate.
Scrap van collection in three steps
Send us the registration
Send us the van's registration and postcode, and we come back to you with a price.
We collect the van
We agree a time between 6am and 10pm, every day of the week, and collect the van from wherever it is.
You are paid on the day
We check your photo ID and pay you by bank transfer on the day, and for a light van the treatment facility gives you a Certificate of Destruction within 7 days.
What to have ready for the driver
Have photo ID ready, such as a passport or a photocard driving licence, and a utility bill or bank statement from the last three months if the ID does not show your address. The law makes every scrap dealer check who they are buying from. Have the van's V5C logbook if you have it, and keep its yellow slip. A missing V5C does not stop a light van being scrapped, just as you can scrap a car with no V5, because a treatment facility does not need one to issue the certificate, and you then write to DVLA instead of using the online service.
Scrap van prices
Scrap van prices are worked out the same way as car prices: the van's weight at the current metal rate, plus its catalytic converter and the parts and other metals that can be reused. A van with its engine, gearbox, bodywork and wheels in place is worth more than a stripped one, and a treatment facility can charge a fee when essential parts like these have been removed.
Scrap van value: what your van fetches
A van fetches about £240 on average, a little under the average for all vehicles at about £255. A quote is a guide rather than a promise: your van's own figure is worked out from its registration, so send it with your postcode, and we come back to you with a price.
Your van questions answered
Can I scrap my van for cash?
No. Since 2013 no scrap dealer in England is allowed to pay cash for a van that is scrapped, so a dealer who pays cash for one is breaking the law. We pay by bank transfer on the day we collect.
Can I keep my van's registration number?
Yes, if the van can move under its own power, has been taxed or had a SORN in place continuously for the last 5 years and meets DVLA's other rules, and you apply before it is scrapped. It costs £80 and you need the van's V5C logbook. You must have the V778 retention document and the new log book before the van is scrapped, or you lose the right to use the number.
Do I need to tell DVLA I have scrapped my van?
Yes. Keep the yellow slip from the V5C and tell DVLA the van has gone to a treatment facility, or you can be fined £1,000. Full months of tax left are refunded automatically, a Direct Debit for the tax is cancelled automatically, and the refund cheque goes to the name and address on the log book.
Where can I scrap my van near me?
You can sell it for scrap where it stands: we collect your van for free from wherever it is in the areas we cover, between 6am and 10pm every day, at a time agreed with you.
